Spectra Clients in 2023 Cannes Official Selection and Film Market

The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival kicked off this week, and we're excited to highlight two wonderful projects scored by Spectra Creative Agency composer clients that will be screening this weekend on the Croisette!

Mars Express

Mars Express, co-scored by Spectra client Fred Avril (he/him) and composer Philippe Monthaye, is part of this year’s Official Selection and a French animated feature that is screening on May 21 as part of the Cinéma De La Plage program. Directed by Jérémie Périn, the film follows Aline Ruby, an obstinate private detective, and Carlos Rivera, an android replica of his deceased partner, throw themselves in a race against the clock across Mars. They must find Jon Chow, a simple cybernetics student who’s on the runs, before the hitmen who are following him closely kill him.

Betye Saar: Ready To Be A Warrior

Betye Saar: Ready To Be A Warrior, scored by Stanley A. Smith and directed by Angela Robinson Witherspoon is a feature documentary about LA-based artist Betye Saar. It will screen at the Pavillon Afriques, part of the Marché du Film, on May 20. “Make Better Art” is the phrase coined by famed 96 year old, Los Angeles based artist, Betye Saar. This film documents her incredible journey as a creator, teacher, artist, mother and Black woman in America…and her response to the civil rights movement in AMERIKA through her ART. The film previously won Best Documentary at the Burbank International Film Festival.

Congratulations to Fred and Stanley for having these wonderful films screening in Cannes!
